Fuzeta
To the east of Fuzeta is a good but untidy wetland that attracts plenty
of birds. Approaching Fuzeta on the N 125 from Luz de Tavira, take the
first left after passing through Livramento, signposted Arroteia. Follow
this narrow lane over the railway and continue straight ahead, crossing
two surfaced roads, until the lane turns right across a large area of
abandoned salinas next to a fish farm. At this point, the mudflats are
viewed by walking around the fish farm fence. The unsurfaced track across
the salinas continues to the mouth of the creek opposite Fuzeta. A gated
track across the middle of the salinas can be explored. Greater Flamingos,
Eurasian Spoonbills, Avocets and especially Black-tailed Godwits favour
this area. Backtracking a short way is a small fishing hamlet (turn right
towards the sea at the first crossroads) that has views across the lagoon
and somewhere to buy a cold drink.
